May 9, 2017 – On May 9, quadrat samples were taken of nine 200′ long strips growing at the Tuyttens Road location of the Holberg Farm test site. From left to right the strips contained Hollandaise brand winter wheat, Hollandaise brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass, Yukon brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass, Trical brand winter Triticale with Italian ryegrass, Yukon brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass & hairy vetch, Yukon brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass & winter peas, Red Tag winter wheat with Italian ryegrass, Pintail winter wheat, and Terralink winter wheat. The strips showed vigorous growth and were similar in height. The producer had cut the Italian ryegrass surrounding the plots on May 6, 2017.
May 9, 2017 – Hairy vetch was only present at about 1 plant for every 0.5 m2 Yukon brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass & hairy vetch.
May 9, 2017 – We only found one winter pea plant in the whole strip of Yukon brand winter wheat with Italian ryegrass & winter peas.
May 9, 2017 – Rust was present on the Pintail winter wheat, and to a lesser extent on the Hollandaise brand winter wheat.
Kincaid Plots Tuyttens Road – On May 9, 2017 quadrat samples were taken of 16 25’ x 5’ plots growing adjacent to test strips at the Tuyttens Road location of the Holberg test site. These plots contained four replicates of Hollandaise brand winter wheat, Tapper radish, fall rye, and Pintail winter wheat. The Tapper radish did not survive the winter but the other plots did well.
Agassiz Avenue location – On May 10, 2017 quadrat samples were taken of the Italian ryegrass that the producer had planted at the Agassiz Avenue location of the Holberg Farm test site
