Corn Heat Units (CHU) is a temperature-based index used by farmers and researchers to estimate if the weather is warm enough to grow corn. A base temperature of 10 degree Celsius is used in the following formula to calculate CHU:
CHU = [3.33 * (Tmax – 10) – 0.084 * (Tmax – 10)^2 + (9/5) * (Tmin – 4.4)] / 2
where
Tmax = maximum daily temperature in degree Celsius
Tmin = minimum daily temperature in degree Celsius
