The BC Farm Women's Network (BCFWN) is a volunteer organization interestedin the well being of humanity and promoting agriculture awareness, good health, farm safety measures and education. We continually encourage new members.

BCFWN is dedicated to networking and communicating with members. Under various volunteer editors BCFWN publishes four newsletters per year. We have also established a $250 annual scholarship for members and/or their children.

Since 1987, BCFWN has hosted seminars throughout the province and has actively participated in Canadian Farm Women's Network (CFWN) conferences held across Canada. We continue to encourage members to attend these valuable learning opportunities.

The BCFWN will host their next seminar on October 22-24, 2004 in Kelowna. The agenda includes several speakers, tours of a fruit packinghouse, a winery, an orchard museum and a worm farm. Entertainment and a live auction are in the planning stages.

BCFWN members sit on many councils and boards throughout the province, including Farm Management - a Ministry of Agriculture Advisory Council, Agriculture in the Classroom and the Farm Debt Appeal Board.

The BCFWN continues to support issues of concern in the agricultural industry. We have sent letters of opposition to the closing of the meat rendering plant in Armstrong; to the CRTC considering abolishing pay telephones in rural areas; and to loggin companies & government ministries concering log debris burning in the fall. We have sent letters of support to Beaumont Estate Winery regarding their fight with the Farm Practices Board and to the BC Government regarding the use of bird cannons.

We attend fairs, exhibitions and agricultural shows to promote agriculture and the BCFWN. We will be attending the Prince George Exhibition in August 2004 and several BCFWN members attended the Pacific Agriculture Show in Abbotsford in February 2004.
